What is an ESA?

  • Emotional support animals reduce symptoms related to a mental health disability

  • They are not service animals

  • They do not require specialized training.

  • Emotional Support Animal (ESA) Evaluations are for Housing Accommodations only

  • They are to provide relief for a qualifying mental health condition such as PTSD, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Major Depressive Disorder, etc.

How does it work?

Many websites charge extra for ESA registrations, certificates, identification cards, badges, or vests. These products do not establish a legitimate need for an emotional support animal, and are not necessary.

  • An evaluation completed by a qualified, licensed healthcare professional
  • Documentation of a qualifying mental health disability
  • A disability-related need for the emotional support animal
  • A signed ESA letter
