Trauma Therapy

healing Trauma

When it comes to healing trauma, traditional talk therapy can inadvertently re-traumatize individuals by prompting them to revisit painful memories prematurely or without a resolution in place to address the wounds of the past. That's why I prioritize approaches firmly grounded in the science of trauma healing, ensuring we can facilitate healing without causing further harm or re-traumatization. Trauma-informed treatment relieves clients of the burden of understanding and navigating their healing journey alone, providing compassionate guidance every step of the way.

Implicit Memories

When trauma becomes stuck, they manifest as "implicit memories" – memories stored as emotions or physical sensations in the body. Even if you can't consciously recall them, your body retains these memories. Sometimes, even when recalling specific memories, it's challenging to recognize their influence on current feelings of being stuck. This is why I've devoted years to studying trauma and its healing processes. Implicit memories anchor us in the past, regardless of how significant or seemingly distant the trauma event appears to us.

If you have chronic pain with no underlying health conditions, you may find great relief once the trauma is addressed.. Of course, it is always recommended and pertinent to see a physician first, with any physical health complaints you are having.

Steps to Healing

Trauma-informed therapy involves creating awareness of unhealed parts of us, ensuring emotional readiness before delving into traumatic memories, and facilitating healing without re-traumatization. We do this by reorienting the body and mind to the present safety in the moment, allowing stuck emotions and bodily sensations from the past to integrate into the present.

Trauma often stems from a lack of compassionate witnessing, particularly in childhood, leaving lasting impacts on mental health into adulthood. In therapy, you'll have a compassionate witness in your therapist, as well as in yourself as you are guided to cultivate self-compassion at your own pace.

My treatment approach provides deep understanding while employing proven methods rooted in neuroscience to accelerate the healing process. I integrate EMDR and other somatic and experiential therapies, tailored to your individual needs. This process is at your own pace, and with your full control.
